Racing is a exercise in overcoming adversity and the Miata Heritage Cup was no different. Registration and tech were completed on Thurs in preparation for our first practice session on Friday. On track about 11:00am Friday and a significant engine skip was immediately obvious. Although it seemed to decrease, the car was not performing. After considerable amount of overall engine check out, a compression test confirmed a blown head gasket. We decided to ditch the late afternoon Q session and Karl proceeded to tear the engine down. Karl worked into the night to pull the head and replace the gasket. Saturday dawned as another hot fall day and we hit track about 10:00am for Q2. Wow….huge difference. We were hitting at or close to our best times ever at 2:26 and qualified 20 out of 27 for the 5:00 pm race. Although we had an unexpected hiccup on the grid which caused us to roll out in 27th position, the race was excellent and we finally finished in 20th spot. Goblins Go SARRC Race at VIR
The karl Burke Racing #80 ITA Miata had a good race on Saturday. In spite of being punted off course once and a couple of shifting glitches, we moved up 6 places overall and ended up with a provisional class position of 4th. Due to disqualifications/penalties, this could end up as a 3rd place in class finish (stay tuned). Nevertheless, It was a very fun nose to tail race with good fighting for position. Take a look at the race by clicking HERE for a look at the entire 23:43 min race from parade lap to photo finish.
As an added treat for you die hard #80 fans, I am including a video from Jason West's #04 Honda. Jason ran in the 4 or 5 car pack that included the #80. Please click #04 Honda to see the #80 from a different perspective.

The Karl Burke Racing Team had a good weekend at Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP) in Kersaw SC. Team cars included Allen Massey and Michael Brandt in their SRF3 machines as well as me in the Miata. I Did some in-car video in the #80 Miata but the Saturday race was the only one of interest. Please click here to view.

Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS)
This was our last points race for 2016. Karl and I arrived Thursday night for testing on Friday and John joined us on Saturday for mid-day SARRC race and Carolina Cup Pro Series (CCPS) event in the evening. There were about 20 cars entered into the SARRC event, but a whopping 60 cars were entered into the combined ECR/CCPS race under the lights Saturday night. Considering everything (not the least of which was our tough little junkyard motor) we did reasonably well finishing 4th in class out of 6 in the SARRC and a very respectable podium finish (3rd) in the CCPS. Running pretty steady lap times and staying out of trouble, put us ahead of some stronger cars beyond our class. To see video highlights, click on the following:

VIR - Goblins Go
This was our last race for 2015. As planned, I only entered the Sat race. Qualifying went well but lost 3rd gear on first lap of the race and had to limp home. The good news is that the video finally came out decent. Click here to see brief snippets of both qualifying and race. The GoPro works !!!!

Please click here for combined March and May in car video. I will say this however, my Re-Play cam broke halfway thru the Saturday race and the Sunday race (with ancient Go Pro) was horrible due to outside view being completely washed out. My apologies to Bryan Parrish in the #88 car. We had an awesome run together thru the whole race on Sunday and I promised him some video. Unfortunately, as indicated, it was a bust. Can you spell "new video cam" ha ha

This year we ran in the annual Daytona Classic. It was our first time and it went very well. Hope to obtain more on track photos and but was disappointed the Sunday "in car" video did not come out (you have to recharge the cam battery Don!!!). Sunday race was x10 better than Saturday. Nevertheless, Saturday was ok and you can get the idea of what it was like to run a 4 cylinder Miata on the high banks of Daytona. Click here to take a look.
06-16-2015 Although I did not get a video from the Sunday race, I did find a youtube video from David Rosckowff in the #158 black Miata out of Oviedo, FL. We ran fairly close together all weekend and in the second part of this 12 min video, you can see our car passing on the front straight. After a nice run, David finished just ahead of us. Click here to view David's video.

See highlight video for this weekend and the May weekend as a combined CMP highlight video. For March I have video for both Sat and Sunday races. Note that we had a miscommunications on the Sunday Race and you will see me run out of gas before the end. During the Saturday race in May, the video came to a abrupt halt near the end due to camera malfunction. There is no video for the Sunday May race due to the very poor quality (tried using my original GoPro). Please click here to view highlights of the video we did get.

After reviewing all video for this event, I determined it had zero entertainment factor (too boring even for John and I).

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - Auguest 15,16 and 17 we spent at CMS. Friday was testing for the driver who was new to this track. It was time well spent. Click here for some video of the Open Test Day.
I have replaced the bumper cam video (which was not that good) with the final in-car version which is way better. You might notice how quickly the more powerful cars leave us on the oval. Nevertheless, there is some quite good racing between the 00 , 5 and myself. It is only 13 minutes so click here to enjoy the video.

Saturday and Sunday 6/28/2014 and 6/29/2014 was our last weekend racing at Roebling this year.
See my blog for an overall description of the weekend. The video is not that exciting but it does have a few good passes and a little excitement mixed with some missed opportunities. So as always, I am anxious to get back there next year and try to do a few things different.
In the videos, I have experimented with inserting a different camera angle in a couple of places and added a few captions to help the viewer know what is going on. As usual, Each video has been edited down to less than 15 minutes (Sat race is 11:00) to eliminate fairly repetitive laps.

Click here #80 Miata race to view highlights of associated race the next day. The excellent rain tires afforded me a top 10 start (out of 40), but with new dry conditions, I got mobbed by faster cars at the start. Nevertheless, we finished 3rd in the ITA class right behind our other Karl Burke racing Team Miata.
